Cuba's National Power System Faces Multiple Crises, Including Unit Failures And Fuel Shortages.

Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines, El Roque, stated in an interview that the country's power system is facing a critical situation. Sudden unit failures and fuel shortages have compounded the situation, leading to severe power shortages and disruptions to power continuity.

The simultaneous outages of three power plants have resulted in a loss of 270 megawatts of generating capacity, further straining an already fragile power system. Following the outages, all provinces reached their power rationing limits, forcing some protective circuits to trip.

After intensive repairs, the power system remains operational, but remains fragile and at risk of further collapse. Furthermore, the Cuban power system has been experiencing fuel shortages since last week, with over 600 megawatts of generating capacity currently offline. El Roque confirmed that a temporary solution has been implemented, and fuel distribution is currently underway.
