Kyrgyzstan's Electricity Consumption Increased To 19.3 Billion Kilowatt-hours

Recently, at a meeting chaired by Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Processing Industries, Bakit Torobayev, the Ministry of Energy reported on the country's energy situation.

Data shows that Kyrgyzstan's electricity consumption continues to grow. In 2025, Kyrgyzstan's electricity consumption reached 19.3 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 900 million kilowatt-hours compared to 2024. Of this, 15.4 billion kilowatt-hours were domestically produced, and 3.9 billion kilowatt-hours were imported.

It is worth noting that, like other Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan is also facing a water shortage this year. Specifically, the Toktogur Reservoir currently holds 9.102 billion cubic meters of water, a decrease of 1.631 billion cubic meters compared to the same period in 2025.

Experts emphasize that water shortages could negatively impact power generation. Therefore, they strongly urge strict adherence to established electricity consumption limits, but practice shows that these limits are not always effectively enforced.

Regarding coal, 3,174,792 tons of coal need to be stockpiled to ensure a smooth heating season, but coal reserves are sufficient. The thermal power plants in Bishkek and Osh also have adequate coal and fuel oil supplies.
