Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported on November 18 that the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade recently issued Notice No. 50/2025/TT-BCT, outlining the technical roadmap and implementation timetable for the mandatory blending of biofuels and fossil fuels nationwide.
The notice states that biofuels include fuel ethanol (E100) and biodiesel (B100), while conventional fuels refer to unleaded gasoline (RON92, RON95, and equivalent specifications) and diesel (DO) that meet current national standards. The biogasoline system is blended from ethanol and base gasoline, mainly including E5RON92 and E10; B10 biodiesel is a blend of DO and B100 at a volume fraction of 9%-10%.
The roadmap is as follows:
· From June 1, 2026, all compliant unleaded gasoline entering the distribution chain must undergo E10 biogas blending and be uniformly supplied to gasoline engines nationwide;
· E5RON92, as a transitional product, is permitted to continue production and sales until December 31, 2030.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will dynamically adjust the blending ratio of biofuels or expand product categories based on multiple factors, including energy security strategy, market supply and demand structure, techno-economic assessment, environmental protection requirements, and consumer rights protection. While B5 and B10 biodiesel are not yet included in the mandatory use scope, the Ministry supports various market entities in participating in the entire biodiesel industry chain, including production, blending, distribution, and consumption, to jointly promote the clean transformation of the energy structure.
