What are the effects of dust and sand on generator sets?

After a long period of storage, the dust on the generator set will increase, which is also a common problem of many mechanical equipment. During the use of the generator set, dust will have an adverse effect on the insulation performance of the diesel generator set. The specific common problems are as follows:

The dust on the surface of the insulation combines with oil vapor and moisture for a long time to form a hard shell, which gradually cracks under the action of thermal stress, causing cracks in the insulating paint film layer of the motor, which is easy to cause the motor's inter-turn, inter-phase and ground insulation breakdown failure.

Due to the mechanical and chemical effects of dust, erosion of winding insulation is the main factor in destroying the insulation layer.

Dust immersed in the insulation gap acts as an "abrasive" on the insulation of the conductor of electromagnetic vibration, causing inter-turn short-circuit failure.

Due to the influence of dust, the tangent of the motor dielectric loss angle will increase, the leakage current will increase; and the creepage distance of the insulation surface will be shortened.

Dust falling on the winding, core and casing surface will deteriorate the heat dissipation conditions of the motor and reduce the effect of ventilation and cooling.

When the dust is a non-conductive and non-flammable substance, it has little effect on the motor coil, but it has an impact on the bearings at both ends of the motor shaft. When the bearing is damaged, the stator and rotor will rub and heat up, and finally burn the coil.

The dust and sand in the air are relatively more, which can easily cause the rapid loss of some parts of the unit. If not handled properly, it will cause a lot of dust in the machine, causing some pipes of the unit to be blocked.
