Tajik President Emomali Rahmon noted that the amount of all types of waste in the country continues to increase due to population growth and industrial development. According to statistics from the Housing and Public Utilities Commission and local government agencies, Tajikistan generates approximately 2 million tons of municipal solid waste annually, with landfills covering over 300 hectares.
Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan currently lacks a comprehensive mechanism for the treatment of industrial, domestic, and construction waste, and that there is a severe shortage of small-scale waste treatment plants. To this end, the President instructed state ministries and relevant agencies to establish waste treatment, transportation, and recycling mechanisms, introduce modern technologies, and build large-scale waste treatment and recycling plants.
