According to Bloomberg, the UK government released an advanced nuclear energy framework document on the 4th, announcing a series of measures to simplify the financing process for small nuclear reactor developers, support the development of small nuclear reactors, and provide power security for the flourishing development of artificial intelligence.
Although the specific construction relies on private funds, the British government is considering designing a revenue support mechanism after the reactor is put into operation. The Ministry of Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions stated that this may be similar to the CFD program provided for wind farms.
The electricity demand of data centers in the UK ranks among the top in Europe, with electricity consumption accounting for 2.5% of the total. With the development of artificial intelligence, this proportion is expected to increase and may threaten the UK's net zero emissions target unless powered by clean energy.
The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions will provide developers with the opportunity to join the pre approved project approval process and assist them in completing the UK licensing process. Successful projects will receive principled recognition from the government, which may help them attract private financing more easily.
