Annual Forecast For New Energy Generation Capacity: Global Wind And Photovoltaic Power Generation Capacity Will Increase By 2025

The Global Energy Interconnection Development Cooperation Organization and the National Climate Center jointly released the "2025 Global New Energy Power Generation Annual Forecast Report" on April 21.

The report made an annual forecast of global new energy power generation capacity for the first time. It is expected that compared with 2024, the global wind power and photovoltaic power generation capacity will increase by more than 10% and 30% respectively in 2025.

By the end of 2024, the total installed capacity of new energy such as wind power and photovoltaic power has reached 1.45 billion kilowatts, surpassing the installed capacity of thermal power for the first time.

However, the power generation capacity of new energy such as wind power and solar energy is significantly limited by meteorological conditions. In the context of climate change, the new power system with new energy as the main body has a more urgent need for climate resource assessment and forecasting and extreme meteorological disaster monitoring and early warning.

This forecast report deeply integrates meteorological factors into the annual power generation forecast of new energy for the first time, marking the latest achievement of cooperative research in the field of energy meteorology.
