The 20th G20 Leaders' Summit opened in Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 22. South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola stated at a press conference that afternoon that participating parties had reached a consensus on the core agenda of the summit and adopted the "G20 Leaders' Johannesburg Summit Declaration."
The declaration emphasizes support for jointly promoting, through existing targets and policies, the tripling of global renewable energy capacity and the doubling of the global annual rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030. It also supports the implementation of other zero-emission and low-emission technologies, including carbon reduction and removal technologies, by 2030, tailored to national circumstances.
