Indonesia's Ministry Of Energy Awards Five Offshore Oil And Gas Blocks

On April 18, 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has awarded five offshore oil and gas blocks and natural gas blocks to the ministry. The department awarded the Gaia 2 and Gaia 1 blocks in West Papua to a consortium of eight companies, including BP Exploration Indonesia, CNOOC Southeast Asia, Malaysia's Enquest Oil Production Company, and ENEOS. The report from the department states that the estimated resource level of the Gaia 2 block is 8.5 Gboe, while the resource level of the Gaia 1 block is 9.6 Gboe.

 

In addition, the Binaiya block located in Maluku has a potential reserve of 670 million barrels of oil equivalent and has been awarded to PT Pertamina Hulu Energy, Petronas' PC North Mandura, and South Korea's SK Earthon. PC North Madura and SK Earthon have also acquired the Sepang block located off the coast of East Java through a consortium formed by Japan's INPEX Corporation. In the end, Armada Etan obtained the Kojo block located in the Makassar Strait.
