The China Corner of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on the 11th. The side event themed "Ecological Civilization and Beautiful China Practice" was held in the blue zone of the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan that morning, officially kicking off the China Corner event.
Zhao Yingmin, head of the Chinese delegation to COP29 and vice minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said at the meeting that since the 18th CPC National Congress, under the guidance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, the Chinese government has placed ecological civilization construction at an unprecedented height, and has coordinated the promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, creating a world-renowned ecological miracle and green development miracle. China insists on implementing the national strategy of actively responding to climate change, promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development; insists on fighting a tough battle against pollution, promoting significant improvements in environmental quality; insists on coordinating the integrated protection and governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands and deserts, and promoting significant improvements in the quality and stability of ecosystems; insists on jointly seeking global ecological civilization construction, and promotes the establishment of a fair, reasonable, cooperative and win-win global climate governance system.
Foreign guests attending the conference, including Hamraj, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Deqin Tsering, Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of the United Nations Environment Programme, and Krupp, President of the Environmental Protection Association of the United States, praised China's important achievements in ecological civilization construction and its outstanding contribution to global low-carbon development in their speeches, and called on all parties to adhere to multilateralism and make more efforts to address global climate change.
During the conference, the China Corner will hold 10 side meeting theme days, including public day, summit day, new energy day, carbon market day, cooperation day, digital day, climate finance and technology day, adaptation day, enterprise day and local day.
COP29 was held in Baku from November 11 to 22. During the conference, Chinese government agencies, research institutions, industry associations, enterprises and non-governmental organizations will hold a variety of side meeting activities around the practice of ecological civilization and beautiful China, China's energy transformation and new energy development, China's carbon market innovation and management practice, "Belt and Road" South-South cooperation in addressing climate change, AI to help climate resilience development, climate investment and financing, digital transformation and global climate governance, and prevention of climate risks.
