Recently, the UAE Steel Group (EMSTEL) and the UAE Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) have reached a cooperation agreement to promote decarbonization in steel production by purchasing clean nuclear power certified by I-REC. At present, 86% of EMSTEL's steel business and 14% of its cement business have used clean electricity, with the goal of achieving 100% clean electricity by 2030.
ENEC's Balaka Nuclear Power Plant generates approximately 40 TWh of electricity annually, which can meet 25% of the country's electricity consumption and reduce 22.4 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
