A fire broke out at a decommissioned power plant in Galveston County, Texas, on November 16, local time, according to ABC News. The fire was intense, sending thick black smoke billowing over several cities in Galveston County.
According to the local fire department, the fire was discovered in the early hours of the morning, and by the time firefighters arrived, the entire power plant was engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control by the afternoon of the same day.
Police stated that the fire engulfed two cooling towers and nearby power lines.
Air quality monitoring data showed that local air quality remained at safe levels, but officials advised residents to avoid the area and to avoid inhaling smoke.
Currently, there are no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
