Melbourne, June 18 (China News Service) "When walking and driving on the streets of Sydney, I found that Chinese new energy vehicles are becoming more and more common." Australian economist and director of the Australia-China Relations Institute at the University of Technology Sydney, James Laurenceson, told reporters on the 17th that clean energy is becoming a key area of Australia-China economic and trade cooperation.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, the 2025 Australia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum was held in Melbourne on the same day. In an interview with China News Service here, Luo Zhen said, "The data itself can explain everything." Since the entry into force of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, bilateral trade has more than doubled, bringing new development opportunities to Australia's agriculture, mining and service industries. He particularly pointed out that by reducing tariffs and trade barriers, the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement has promoted the vigorous development of Chinese new energy vehicles in Australia today.
The "2025 China-Australia Enterprise Economic and Trade Cooperation Status and Prospects Survey Report" recently released by the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce shows that clean energy is becoming the development direction focused on by Chinese and Australian companies and is regarded as a core area of trade, investment and cooperation. Luo Zhen said that in recent years, Australia and China have cooperated closely in solar panels, new energy vehicles and other fields. The two sides are complementary in the field of clean energy and have promising prospects for cooperation.
Facing the uncertainty brought about by trade protection measures such as the US tariff policy, Luo Zhen said that Australia, like China, is a firm supporter of economic globalization and free trade. Under the current circumstances, Australia and China have become more important to each other. "The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement is a good example that constructive participation can bring positive results to both sides."
