The groundbreaking ceremony of the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant Project in Malaysia was held in Miri, a city in the eastern part of Sarawak, Malaysia on November 30. About 400 political and business people, industry experts and others from Malaysia and China attended the ceremony.
Sarawak Prime Minister Abang Jo Hari said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony that day that the construction of the project will help Sarawak move further towards the goal of a regional energy supply center and create tangible benefits for the local people.
The project is undertaken by China Power Construction Group Hydropower Bureau No. 8. It is reported that the project will build a new combined cycle gas power plant with an installed capacity of 500 megawatts, as well as supporting facilities such as a booster station and an administrative building. The project is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2027. After completion, it will greatly increase local power production capacity, optimize local energy structure, and increase the utilization rate of renewable energy, providing energy security for achieving sustainable development of the regional economy.
Zhou Jiayi, deputy general manager of Power Construction International and general manager of the Asia-Pacific regional headquarters, told Xinhua News Agency reporters that Power Construction will continue to respond to local social and livelihood needs, effectively serve Malaysia's economic and social development, and add new colors to the friendly relations and economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia.
Jiang Qinghua, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Eighth Hydropower Bureau, said that this project is the largest project that PowerChina has won in Malaysia this year. The project team will make every effort to promote high-quality performance of the project and look forward to contributing to Malaysia's green energy transformation after its completion.
