The Sihanoukville provincial government and relevant departments of Cambodia are currently conducting further joint investigations into the unexplained oil pollution incident that occurred in the waters of Sihanoukville (referred to as Sihanoukville) on February 1, local time. The beach where the incident occurred was temporarily closed to the public yesterday.
The news released by the Cambodian Ministry of Environment pointed out that the aforementioned oil pollution incident occurred in the first district of Sihanoukville. On February 1, a large amount of black oil was found floating on the local sea surface, and some of the oil was washed ashore by the sea.
After receiving the report, officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and Sihanoukville quickly rushed to the scene to direct the investigation of this major pollution incident. As of now, the relevant departments have not yet determined the source of the pollution.
On February 1, local officials mobilized multiple forces to urgently clean up the polluted beach, and used oil booms to prevent the oil from spreading further. About 90% of the oil on the polluted beach was successfully cleaned up that night.
On February 2, the beach that was closed earlier was reopened. However, the authorities called on tourists not to go into the sea for the time being to facilitate professionals to continue to clean up the oil on the sea.
